Wilma Rudolph (USA) wins the 100 m at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome.

Wilma Rudolph, the 20th of 22 siblings, born prematurely, contracted infantile paralysis (caused by polio) at age four. She wore a brace on her left leg and foot (which had become twisted as a result) until she was nine. At the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome she won three Olympic medals.
